After three years of closure, the Musee des Beaux-Arts in Charleroi reopened on 17 December 2022 with 'Dupuis: La fabrique de heros', an exhibition on 100 years of the publisher Dupuis - home of Spirou, the Smurfs and Gaston Lagaffe. Toster developed three visual, interactive installations that immerse visitors in the world of the comic strip.
Projection 3D: in VR, visitors operate a giant 3D smartphone to scroll through webtoons. The comic author appears life-size next to you in 3D to explain or to draw characters in space - and you can walk around those creations.
The Drawing Table: an all-white drawing table with brushes, paint and sketchbooks comes to life in colour through touch and video mapping. Touch the pencils or the ink, and the drawing and inking of a comic character builds up in the sketchbook.
Les photos dynamiques: a gallery wall of animated portraits of comic authors who blink or look around, and react when touched. Hidden touchscreens in the frames instead of projection: no contrast loss from ambient light, and several visitors at once.
